A bill seeking to create an autonomous Cordillera region has been approved in the Senate on first reading.
Senator Migz Zubiri, in Senate Bill No. 1678, said an autonomous Cordillera will be better able to address issues of under development and poverty in the region.
Zubiri earlier vowed to file the Senate version of the bill.
He said filing the bill himself will enable the Senate to tackle the proposed Cordillera autonomy alongside the House of Representatives.
Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza previously told Cordillera leaders to maximize the current “enabling environment” in pushing for autonomy.#
