Ilocos Norte Second District Representative Angelo Marcos Barba said it is time the government focuses on improving agricultural courses to make it more attractive to the youth.
The politiko said this during a recent hearing of the technical working group of the House Committee on Agriculture on House Bill Number 5280, which would establishing the Young Farmers Challenge Program.
“The youth do not consider agricultural courses as career options due to the hardships and the low-income generation associated with farming. They are only drawn to agriculture because of the incentives and grants being offered,” Barba said.
“Thus, we need to establish programs that will encourage the youth to purse a career in agriculture by including them in policy formulation as well as in the implementation of programs in the agriculture sector,” he added.
