Ifugao Representative Solomon Chungalao called on the Environment and Energy Departments to expand definition of host communities to give upland watershed villages their share from hydro power plant operations.
The Ifugao politiko made the plea during the advisory committee meeting of the Regional Development Council (RDC).
Chungalao said many upland villages in Ifugao are being shortchanged by the Magat Dam in Ramon, Isabela.
“What we understand is that host communities of hydro power plants extend up to the watershed areas like Ifugao in the case of the operation of the Magat dam but we are being deprived of the legitimate share from the funds being earmarked for development projects of host communities considering the limitations in the definition of host communities,” he said.
The current definition of host communities is limited to the peripheries of the dams of power plants.
