The Sandiganbayan 4th Division has ordered the release of the sequestered properties and assets of the son-in-law of late strongman Ferdinand Marcos, Gregorio Araneta III.
The anti-graft court issued a resolution which granted Araneta’s motion to release sequestered properties and assets since the Supreme Court (SC) already affirmed the dismissal of the P200-billion forfeiture case against him and 18 others.
Araneta, the husband of the youngest daughter of Marcos, Irene, sought to release his properties and assets in IMEXCO Enterprise Inc. and Asialand from the forfeiture case.
On the other hand, the court assured “the lifting of the writ of sequestration will not necessarily be fatal to the main case since the same does not mean that the sequestered properties are, in fact, not ill-gotten.”
“The effect of the lifting of the sequestration will merely be the termination of the government’s role as conservator,” it stated.
Former First Lady Imelda Marcos remains a defendant in the forfeiture case.
