Sandiganbayan orders ex-Benguet mayor Camsol’s suspension

Former Buguias, Benguet mayor Apolinario Camsol has been ordered suspended for 90 days by the Sandiganbayan 7th Division from his post as councilor.

The anti-graft court granted the motion of the prosecution to suspend him considering he has been charged with graft concerning the alleged anomalous purchase of insecticides in 2004.

In its resolution, the court pointed out the suspension of a government official accused of graft is mandatory under the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act to prevent him from influencing evidence in a case.

“Thus, there is an imperative need to see to it that he will not in any way, either directly or indirectly, intimidate or influence any witness that the prosecution may call to the witness stand,” the court ruled.

The case stemmed from the 2004 purchase of insecticides from PMB-Agro Goods and Serviices worth P1.05 million when Camsol was still town mayor.

However, the deal allegedly violated the Government Procurement Reform Act for skipping the bidding process when the deal was awarded to the supplier.
