The Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje Tang on November 13 said the anti-graft court has deferred the issuance of a warrant of arrest against Ilocos Norte 2nd District Representative Imelda Marcos.
The Sandiganbayan convicted the Ilocos Norte politiko of seven counts of graft last November 9.
Marcos was found guilty of transferring around $200 million to seven Swiss foundations during her term as a member of the defunct Batasang Pambansa and as then Minister of Human Settlements.
Tang issued the statement several days after the anti-graft court convicted Marcos of seven counts of graft on Friday and sentenced her to six to 11 years in prison for each count.
“I just learned that the Court has deferred release of the warrant of arrest because the lawyer of Mrs. Marcos filed a motion asking leave of court to avail of remedies and deferment of issuance of warrant,” Tang said.
