Local healthcare workers in the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center and the Ilocos Norte Medical Society (INMS) have called for a timeout as the number of COVID-19 cases in the province continue to skyrocket.
Dr. Luis Jake Rubio, former president and ex-officio member of INMS, said in an interview that medical frontliner groups are now appealing for stricter quarantine curbs as many members are already “exhausted.”
As of Tuesday, July 20, at least 283 new COVID-19 cases were recorded. This is the highest single-day tally since the pandemic began in March last year.
INMS and Governor Matthew Manotoc met for a consultation on Monday to discuss the possibility of placing the entire province under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
