From April 14 to 22, the Philippine National Police will impose a gun ban in Ilocos Sur province for the Palarong Pambansa there.

PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa relayed the order to Region 1 head Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula.

“In view of the scheduled ‘Palarong Pambansa,’ all Permits to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) are hereby suspended for a period of nine days in the province of Ilocos Sur effective April 14 to 22, 2018,” dela Rosa said in his memo.

He added only members of the police, military and other law enforcement agencies on duty and in uniform may carry firearms.

Dela Rosa added this is part of security preparations “to ensure that the ‘Palarong Pambansa’ would be free from firearm-related incidents and safe for the populace, as well as local and foreign tourists.”

The directive is to be implemented in consonance with the enhanced police operations in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, other government agencies and local government units concerned.

Last January, the Department of Education announced it will partner with Ilocos Sur for the Palarong Pambansa.

The DepEd said it will provide technical and funding assistance in the preparation, repair, and rehabilitation of billeting schools.

It will also provide technical officiating officials for the different sports events, and focal persons, liaison officers and/or committees that will coordinate with Ilocos Sur.

For its part, Ilocos Sur shall create and convene the Local Palaro Executive Committee (LPEC) and a secretariat, as well as other working committees for the hosting of the 2018 Palarong Pambansa.

Also, the provincial government shall provide focal persons or liaison officers or committees or and other manpower requirement who will coordinate and assist DepEd from the preparation stage up to the actual conduct of the Palaro.

It will also ensure the readiness and availability of the sports facilities, playing venues, and billeting quarters throughout the whole duration of the Palaro; and ensure that all roads leading to all billeting quarters and playing venues are well maintained (
