PMA backs Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong amid red-tagging

Alumni of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) expressed their support of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong who has recently been red-tagged Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, former anti-insurgency task force spokesperson Lorraine Badoy and ex-rebel Jeffrey “Ka Eric” Celiz.

In an open letter, the former schoolmates of the Politiko expressed their rejection of the harmful claims made against Mayor Magalong, a retired police general and a member of the PMA Class of 1982. It has gathered over 350 signatures from former batch mates, upperclassmen, and alumni of the academy.

“As graduates of PMA, we condemn Ms. Badoy, Ka Erik and Pastor Quiboloy for these baseless, inciting remarks,” the letter read. Last year, Magalong drew the ire of Badoy after he ordered the taking down of tarpaulins and posters that linked local activists to communist rebels in his city.

During the last few weeks, Mayor Magalong was accused of conspiring with various communist terrorist groups (CTGs) in the country.
