Dingras town in Ilocos Norte province is now under a state of calamity due to the high incidence there of the year-round threat dengue.
Mayor Erdio Valenzuela said they noticed a rise in dengue cases starting June, the onset of the rainy season.
“We have mobilized our village officials and barangay health workers to spearhead the cleanliness drive. Our Municipal Health Unit is also on top of the situation to arrest this problem,” Valenzuela said.
Valenzuela said there have been 66 dengue cases with one death. The fatality was described as a child from flood-prone Barangay San Marcelino.
The municipal government is now conducting fumigation activities to contain the spread of dengue.
Valenzuela said they have enough funds to contain the disease.
