House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas lauded the Supreme Court for rejecting Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos’ omnibus motion against the House of Representatives over the detention of six provincial employees during the probe into the alleged misuse of the province’s tobacco funds.
The Ilocos Norte politiko said the SC ruling upheld the power of the House “in the matter of detention” of the Ilocos Norte officials.
“We thank the Supreme Court… for affirming the power of the HOR to compel Gov. Imee Marcos to appear before the COGGPA, for finding that my co-respondents and I did not commit any grave abuse of discretion in our conduct during COGGPA proceedings, and for denying all the reliefs prayed for by Gov. Marcos and her co-petitioners,” Fariñas said.
He also maintained their actions were “all supported by the law.”
“It is unfortunate that they chose to commit such contumacious acts that led them to be cited in contempt by the HOR and to be detained until they purged themselves of such contempt,” Fariñas added.
