An environmentalist is asking President Rodrigo Duterte to intervene in the planned cutting of 49 pine trees in Baguio City by Moldex Corporation.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, May 19, Cordillera Ecological Center Director Michael Bengwayan wrote an open letter addressed to the President.
Bengwayan said Moldex Corporation is allegedly planning to tear down 49 pine trees in Baguio City. Some of the trees, he said, are already 70 to 80 years old and would cause a big blow to the environment if they are cut down.
“Pine trees are heritage of Baguio. Without pine trees, there will be no City of Pines in the Philippines,” said Bengwayan.
“Sir, please stop the tree cutting. Only you can do it,” he added.
