North Luzon provinces that were gravely affected by the magnitude 7 earthquake in Abra last week would need at least P1 billion to repair and renovate damaged infrastructure.

According to the respective governments of provinces in the Cordillera Administrative Region and Ilocos Region, public schools and hospitals were among those that were severely damaged by the quake and its aftershocks.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported at least 2,010 aftershocks, including a magnitude 5.1 quake that occurred in Abra on Monday, August 1.

Last week’s earthquake left Abra with P449.2-million worth of damage to infrastructure and would require P480 million to rebuild property that could not withstand the strong tremor, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
