Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile contradicted himself regarding his claim that no one was arrested for his or her political or religious beliefs during Martial Law.
In an interview with CNN, Enrile denied he made the false claim.
“I would not be foolish to ask that question because I was the one who signed the arrest warrants,” he said.
The Cagayan politiko made the false claim during an earlier interview with former senator Bongbong Marcos.
“Name me one person that was arrested because of political or religious belief during that period. None. Name me one person that was arrested simply because he criticized President Marcos. None,” Enrile previously said.
