Pangasinan Fourth District Representative Christopher “Toff” De Venecia said there is now more reason for Congress to pass the economic stimulus bill proposed by the House of Representatives.
On Tuesday, June 30, the politiko attended Ateneo de Manila University professor Ciel Habito’s briefing of lawmakers on the state of the Philippine economy.
De Venecia was alarmed by the figures Habito cited.
“Projections are varying on how much our economy will contract for the balance of 2020 – from 0.6% to 6% to 7%. Very alarming rates,” De Venecia said.
“Kelangan na talagang maisabatas ang stimulus bill para hindi magsara ang mga negosyo, kaparehas ng pagsugpo ng pamahalaan sa CoVid 19 para maiwasto at maibalik ang consumer confidence,” he added.
The House passed on 3rd and final reading an economic stimulus package worth P1.3 trillion that aims to help small businesses get back on their feet after the COVID-19 pandemic. The Senate, however, has yet to file a counterpart measure.
