Narvacan Mayor Chavit Singson said he did not feel too bad when he lost his senatorial bid in 2007.
The Ilocos Sur politiko made the remark in his interview on Bottomline.
“At that time, very negative ang tao sa administration ni President Gloria [Macapagal-Arroyo],” Singson said.
“So, wala akong magawa. E kampi ako doon. So, okay lang,” he added.
But Singson explained that the only reason he ran for Senate was to push for one bill.
“My only purpose then was to make a law, like noong nagpunta ako sa Congress, I had only one bill. And I was successful. That was Republic Ac 7171, taxes about cigarette. Excise taxes,” he said.
“So 15% of all excise taxes of cigarettes will go back to the Virginia tobacco-producing provinces,” Singson added.
