Mayor Salda urges BSU to invest in tissue culture lab to ensure supply of strawberry runnersa

La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda called on the Benguet State University (BSU) to invest in a tissue-culture laboratory to ensure the sufficiency of agricultural crops.

The Benguet politiko specifically cited the difficulty being experienced by strawberry farmers to meet demand because of the lack of runners.

Salda said importing strawberry runners in proving more difficult than before.

He also warned that there might be a shortage of strawberries during the town’s Strawberry Festival.

“It is unfortunate that BSU does not have the appropriate equipment and tissue laboratory to help our strawberry farmers produce additional planting materials for this coming planting season as it is now difficult to import such runners,” Salda said.
