La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda said the municipality will soon have its own penal facility.

The Benguet politiko recently entered into an agreement with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Cordillera (BJMP-CAR) for the construction of the La Trinidad municipal jail.

Under the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), BJMP-CAR will provide P13.2 million for the project while the La Trinidad municipal government will provide 1,000-2,000 square meters of land for the building.

The site of the proposed municipal jail will be the purchased property in Barangay Shilan.

The municipal government is also expected to build the road leading to the municipal jail.

“We are elated that the project will now be realized after we were able to iron out the various issues that cropped up when the plan to put up a new municipal jail was brought to the fore. We will surely do our part to ensure the speedy implementation of the project,” Salda said.

He explained the new penal facility will decongest the old municipal jail.
