Selling cigarettes will soon be banned in Sablan.
This after the Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) approved a resolution calling on the municipal council to pass an ordinance prohibiting the sale of cigarettes in the town.
Sablan Mayor Arthur Baldo said he has received reports that students were smoking near school premises.
Baldo said the ban on selling cigarettes is only fitting because Sablan is a recipient of the Red Orchid award.
The Department of Health (DOH) confers the Red Orchid to local government units that effectively implement a tobacco-free environment.
“We have to strengthen our campaign to protect those who are not yet inclined to smoke especially the students,” Baldo said.
