Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said there will not be a total closure of the Summer Capital as part of its proposed rehabilitation.
The Baguio politiko said the proposed rehab will only focus on fixing the city’s sewerage system as well as massive regreening project.
Magalong said a total closure of Baguio is not feasible since it is a gateway to other parts of the Cordillera.
He also said he has already talked to Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu and Interior Secretary Eduardo Año regarding a possible 1-year moratorium on construction of buildings and cutting of trees.
In exchange, the city government will receive funds for the proposed rehab.
“It will be impractical to close the city because of the said problems that would affect the whole city,” Magalong said.
