Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said he has agreed to terminate the city government’s 1996 market development contract with Uniwide Sales Realty and Resources Corporation (Uniwide).
The Baguio politiko said the city market and the surrounding areas will undergo a modernization program.
Magalong also ordered concerned city government offices to prepare a conceptual plan for the city market’s modernization.
He also said he will no longer allow small improvements at the city market to pave way for its total rehabilitation.
The mayor last Monday directed the preparation of the conceptual plan and eventually a master development plan that would transform the trading center into a true show window of the city.
The Uniwide contract had been the subject of a years-long legal battle between the company, the city government, and several groups in Baguio.
