Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said Filipinos’ sacrifices in their fight against COVID-19 “exemplifies” what true heroism means.
This was the politiko’s Independence Day message on Facebook on Friday, June 12.
“What has happened in our struggle against this dreaded disease exemplifies what Filipino heroism is all about, what bayanihan means when done here in Baguio,” Magalong said.
“It bespeaks of Filipino sweat, tears and blood, so willingly shed for freedom to reign in our hearts, especially freedom from fear, freedom from want,” he added.
He then cited how important being disciplined is, especially during a pandemic.
“In the end, to be free is to be worthy first of being free. To be truly free, to do what we want, we must first be free from want. To achieve our needs, we should first be free from fear to aspire for the finest in being Filipinos, in being disciplined citizens of a rising city like Baguio,” Magalong said.
“Isang mapagpalayang araw ng kasarinlan sa ating lahat! Kalayaan mula sa coronavirus! Kalayaan na magtiwala na ating malalagpasan ang hamon na ito sa ating bayan!” he added.
