Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong is seeking a probe into the spike in deaths related to the coronavirus disease (COVID19) in the city.
The Baguio politiko said that from 48 deaths from December 14, 2020, this increased to 71 as of January 5, 2021.
Magalong said this a more than 40% increase in COVID19-related deaths in less than a month.
He has ordered a meeting with City Health Officer Dr. Rowena Galpo and hospital chiefs to determine what caused the spike.
Galpo said those who died during the said period were declared on arrival or where rushed to the hospital in critical situation.
