Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong on July 13 signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Squidpay Technology Inc. to initiate a cashless collection system in the Summer Capital.
The Baguio politiko said this will make the Summer Capital the first local government unit in the country to go cashless.
Magalong said the digitization program is timely amid the coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic because residents can conduct contactless business transaction at city hall/
“Although most of those affected are in the railway business,” he said.
“The public utility vehicle (PUV) sector remains at risk for using direct payment scheme that does not inhibit physical interaction,” Magalong added.
