Malasiqui Mayor Noel Anthony Geslani has declared a state of calamity in the town because of the presence of African Swine Fever (ASF).
The Pangasinan politiko said the declaration of the state of calamity will allow the municipal government to use its calamity fund to give financial aid to the affected hog raisers.
More than 600 pigs from Barangay Apaya and Barangay Polong Norte were culled since last January.
“The number of hog raisers affected will still increase as culling operations continue in the different barangays within the one-kilometer radius, while blood sampling is also being done in barangays within the seven-kilometer radius,” Geslani said.
He also said testing continues in other barangays.
“We are still to identify the amount of indemnification for the affected hog raisers as their number continues to increase,” Geslani said.
