Sadanga Mayor Gabino Ganggangan said the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples-Cordillera (NCIP-CAR) should facilitate a “sapata” to settle the almost two-decades-long tribal conflict between the Bugnay of the Botbot and the Betwagan.
The two parties have been in conflict since 2001 over issues on tribal boundaries.
“We are all aware of our traditional and customary practice of finding who is telling the truth by challenging the parties concerned to do their testimonies or narration of claims by doing it thru the sapata,” Ganggangan said.
He also said members of other tribes can be invited to testify in the sapata.
“So in the same context of seeking the truth as to where their boundary is, I suggest that the NCIP invite the two parties to meet and to this sapata to be witnessed by the members of the two Sangguniang Panlalawigan concerned,” Ganggangan said.
