Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan called on Cordillerans not to resort to violence to call attention to the region’s quest for autonomy.
The Baguio politiko likened the situation to separatists in Mindanao.
But Domogan insisted that autonomy must be achieved through peaceful means.
“We had been receiving mixed signals from Cordillerans to create noise in the region through violence just to gain the attention of the national government to recognize our efforts to achieve autonomy but the prevailing sentiment among autonomy advocates is that we must continue to strengthen our quest for self-rule through peaceful means,” Domogan said.
He also said pursuing autonomy via violence is unacceptable.
