Mankayan Mayor Frenzel Ayong said that the town needs to develop its agriculture and tourism industries so that it will not be dependent on mining.
The Benguet politiko said the prescribed mine life of the existing mining operations in the town will eventually end.
Ayong explained that agriculture and tourism will be more sustainable.
“We have to make sure Mankayan will still remain competitive even when existing large-scale mining companies will end their prescribed mine life,” he said.
“The way to go is to start supporting the different programs, projects and activities of the different sectors that will make the same vibrant development in the future,” Ayong added.
