Mankayan Mayor Frenzel Ayong has created an indigenous peoples (IP) desk that aims to address the concerns of IPs in the municipality.
The Benguet politiko said there is a need to sustain the recognition of the rights of IPs.
Ayong explained that the IP desk will initially share the same office with the pocket miner’s desk.
He said he wants the IP desk to have its own office in the future.
Ayong said the town’s IP elders are willing to pass on their culture and traditions to the next generation.
“We are grateful to our elders who took time to interact with the younger generations and empowered them to help in preserving and protecting our rich culture and traditions as well as our history so that the coming generations will know who they are and enjoy the fruits of a well preserved culture,” Ayong said.
