Alcala Mayor Tin Antonio said building a “mighty, green wall” will help mitigate the severe flooding in the town.
The Cagayan politiko is seeking to plant around 29,500 native forest and flowering trees along highways and roadsides in the town.
“After the two 100-year floods that happened in Alcala in a span of 11 months, there is no time to waste. Let’s build the mighty, green wall of Alcala!” she said.
Antonio said the tree-planting activity will cover around 118 kilometers.
“The planting of native trees on roadsides is just one aspect of the green initiative of Alcala,” Antonio said.
“We will also be planting on the mountains, watersheds, riverbanks and communities,” she added.
