Bauko Mayor Abraham Akilit has ordered the creation of a monitoring group tasked to guard the municipality’s communal forests from illegal logging.
The Mountain Province politiko said the move will help the municipal government protect and preserve the forests in its jurisdiction.
“We issued the directive to our barangay officials for them to initiate the necessary programs to guard the communal forests in their areas of jurisdiction that will avert massive destruction of the forests for the benefit of the present and future generations,” Akilit said.
He said the monitoring group will look out for individuals who unscrupulously cut trees in Bauko’s forests.
Akilit also said the Bauko municipal government is planning to create municipal nurseries.
The municipal nurseries aim to propogate endemic plants that will be used to replace trees destroyed by forest fires.#
