Bauko Mayor Abraham Akilit urged government agencies to coordinate their efforts in stopping illegal logging.
The Mountain Province politiko made the statement following the report that no arrests related to illegal logging were made in the region during the past several months.
Akilit said he was surprised that no arrests were made despite several months of implementation of the anti-illegal logging campaign in the Cordillera.
He said government agencies should tap members of local anti-illegal logging task forces to better keep an eye on Cordillera’s forests.
“We liberalized the use of forest products in the local level but there is a need to closely monitor the declared uses of the said products to prevent possible abuse by those who were allowed to do so,” Akilit said.
He also said is hoping for better results in the coming months.
