One of Baguio City Representative Mark Go’s pet bill, the Medical Scholarship and Return Service (MSRS) Program Act has been ratified by Congress.
Also known as the “Doktor Para sa Bayan Act,” the proposed measure aims to grant medical scholarships to deserving students.
It also prioritizes qualified applicants from municipalities without government physicians.
Under the bill, scholars are required to finish the Doctor of Medicine Program within a prescribed time frame, and must serve in their hometowns in a return service program.
The length of return service shall be equivalent to the graduates’ years under the scholarship grant.
Go said he hopes the bill will eventually produce one doctor for each municipality in the country.
