Baguio City Representative Mark Go’s proposed measure seeking to provide health, retirement, and other benefits to caddies has been approved by the House committee on labor and employment last February 10.
The Baguio politiko is the principal author of House Bill (HB) No. 1343.
In his proposed measure, Go said more than a hundred independent caddies are not provided employee benefits.
“For this bill, it will be the responsibility of the particular golf club management to come out with a mechanism wherein they will be given the SSS, Pag-Ibig, Philhealth, as well as retirement benefits,” Go said.
“Considering the nature of their work, these independent workers are vulnerable to some health hazards—these workers undergo a certain training usually provided by the club management and are subject to the club’s rules and regulation on caddie service,” he added.
