Baguio City Representative Mark Go’s proposed amendment to the increase in road user tax bill has been approved by the Committee on Ways and Means in the House of Representatives.

The Baguio politiko proposed to stagger the tax hike to 30% a year until 2022.

Albay Representative Joey Salceda and the Department of Finance (DOF) earlier proposed a 100% increase in the road user tax/

The Salceda-DOF proposal will increase taxes by 70% in 2020, 20% in 2021, and 10% in 2022.

Go said the original proposal was unfair to vehicle owners who only recently bought cars.

“We are unjustly penalizing them by including inflation in the road user tax at a time when they did not have cars yet,” he said.
