Baguio City Representative Mark Go said that Filipinos do not need to be martyrs to be called heroes.
The Baguio politiko made the remark on Rizal Day.
“123 years later, we are still inspired by Dr. Jose Rizal. Modern heroes are still relevant, but unlike Rizal, we do not need to be executed to become a hero,” Go said.
He explained that everyday acts can be heroic.
“We can be heroes. A boy who helps an elderly to cross the road is a hero. An OFW who toils in a foreign land for his family back here is a hero. A policeman who honestly does his job is a hero. A citizen who follows traffic rules even without people seeing him is a hero. A politician who acts in accordance with the highest level of integrity and serves his people and community effectively is a hero. A businessman who pays his taxes correctly is a hero,” Go said.
