Baguio City Representative Mark Go said the declaration of September 3 as a Special Working Holiday was meant to honor World War II veterans.
September 3 is the date of the formal surrender of General Tomoyuki Yamashita at Camp John Hay.
Go said working for the holiday declaration is an “expression of great appreciation” for the country’s heroes.
“We are so blessed by their heroism and to once again commemorate those who fought for our country in WWII,” he said.
“Although it may not be a non working holiday like today, it is our expression of our great appreciation to those who served our country with valor in the face of adversity during WWII,” he added.
