The Mariano Marcos State University in Ilocos Norte is one of the selected PH universities that will receive funding from the United States to do research on how the country can improve pandemic response.

According to the United States Agency for International Development, five universities across the country were chosen. Each school will then focus on a specific area in pandemic response.

The team from MMSU will expand village-scale ethanol production in the Ilocos region to boost the supply of much-needed disinfectants, which is pegged to be one of the most sustainable initiatives for future disease outbreaks.
