Malacañang said President Rodrigo Duterte will just visit Ilocos Norte 2nd District Representative Imelda Marcos if she goes to jail.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Duterte will not interfere with the Ilocos Norte politiko’s graft case.
“Let the courts decide because first of all it is not yet final,” Panelo said.
But critics have expressed concern that the Philippine National Police is giving Marcos preferential treatment because of her advanced age and her closeness to Duterte.
Duterte is a known ally of the Marcoses.
“You know, the closeness they are talking about is only perceived. From how I know the President, he is not affected by closeness,” Panelo said.
