The local government of Baguio City has encouraged its residents to have themselves vaccinated after data showed that 96% of the city’s fatalities did not receive any protection from the virus.
Dr. Donnabel Panes, City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit head, reported that out of the 106 recorded deaths from April 19, only four individuals had at least one dose of the vaccine.
She urged the lgu to ramp up the vaccination program and prioritize the vulnerable population, including the senior citizens.
“We started vaccinating last April, and since the we recorded 106 deaths, most of them are seniors. This means we have to vaccinate the elderly to protect them from developing severe symptoms that may lead to death.”
