Mayor Benjamin Magalong urged the city’s colleges and universities to suspend in-person classes as new infections of COVID-19 continuously rise.

The Politiko, in a dialogue with the colleges and the Commission on Higher Education, has discussed the threats of the highly transmissible Omicron variant not only to students, but to their families in the city.

Previously, medical programs of local universities in the city were given permission to conduct in-person interactions, particularly for those studying to become doctors and nurses who require clinical training at local hospitals.

However, Mayor Magalong acknowledged that the lgu has no direct supervision over universities and the decision to resume in-person classes and called for a decision to temporarily halt face-to-face classes.
