Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. called for stronger ties between the Philippines and China as the two countries marked their “Friendship Day” on Wednesday, June 9.

In a Facebook post, the Ilocano politiko said the “brotherhood” between the Philippines and China is “valuable” and both countries must push to strengthen this.

“Made strong through generations, and even now in this crucial time of a global health crisis, the brotherhood spirit our nations deeply share is indeed one that is valuable to both our countries and must yet be strengthened,” said Marcos.

“With whatever challenges there may be, we should strive to nourish the foundations of this friendship – a friendship founded on mutual respect, compassion, generosity and a common vision for a shared future of our region,” he added.
