At least 851 families or 2,605 residents from different barangays in Cagayan were evacuated yesterday as Typhoon Kiko made landfall in Batanes.

According to local authorities, the preemptive evacuation was spearheaded by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

The office also reported at least 30 COVID-19 patients across different barangays were also included in the evacuation.

The local government also noted that around 1,000 people or 368 families were accommodated by their neighbors, through the province’s ”adopt a neighbor” program, which was initiated when Typhoon Lawin hit last year.
