La Union 2nd District Representative Sandra Eriguel can now heave a sigh of relief after the Supreme Court (SC) affirmed her victory in the 2016 polls.
The SC has issued a resolution upholding the Commission on Election’s (COMELEC) decision to proclaim her as the winner of her district’s congressional race in 2016.
The High Tribunal junked the petition filed by Paulino Nonan after he failed to prove that COMELEC committed grave abuse of discretion.
Nonan had sought the cancelation of her certificate of candidacy due to her questionable citizenship.
The SC ruled that COMELEC was right in turning him down for the reason that the poll body is not the right authority to act on his petition.
In its resolution, the SC pointed out Nonan should have brought the matter before the House of Representative Electoral Tribunal.
