La Trinidad is asking the Department of Agriculture for P5 million for the procurement of new strawberry planting materials.
The La Trinidad municipal council, through a resolution filed by Councilor Arthur Shontogan, said the town needs new strawberry runners to be able to meet demand.
“The existing strawberry planting materials were already at the 4th to 6th generation and the production is already very low,” Shontogan said.
He explained that around 2,000 farmers will use the new strawberry planting materials.
“Recent typhoons and continuous rains caused floods and swamped portions of Strawberry Fields of the municipality damaging farms growing strawberries,” Shontogan said.
