Kabayan forest fire damages 165,000 trees, saplings

Around P1.6-million worth of trees and seedlings were damaged during the forest fires that lasted for eight days in Kabayan, Benguet.

More than 165,000 trees and seedlings were planted in the 600-hectare pine forest ravaged by the blaze.

The fire began at Sitio Bulok in Barangay Adaoay in Kabayan.

It spread to the nearby Barangay Anchokey until February 17.

The Bureau of Fire Protection declared fire out on February 18.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The Mount Pulag Park Management has also said the Akiki Trail will be temporarily closed so that the damaged area can recover.
