Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile once again backtracked on his earlier false claim that there were no human rights abuses or people arrested during Martial Law.
The Cagayan politiko made several false claims during an interview with former senator Bongbong Marcos.
“I’m not saying that there were no people arrested or that there were no people abused. What I am saying, and I keep repeating to the public, is that we never adopted a policy of killing people with impunity,” Enrile said.
Enrile also made a half-apology to victims of human rights abuses.
“I apologize for the people who suffered abuse if there were,” he said.
But Enrile himself admitted he supported the law mandating reparation for victims of Martial Law.
