Former Commission on Human Rights chairperson Etta Rosales said former First Lady Imelda Marcos should give up her bid to replace her daughter, Imee, as Ilocos Norte governor in next years polls.
Rosales said there was no going around the guilty verdict of the Sandiganbayan Fifth division against Imelda who was sentenced to up to 77 years in jail and perpetually banned from holding public office.
“She has no business running for governor,” said Rosales in an interview with ANC.
Marcos is on her third and final term as Ilocos Norte representative. Imee is running for senator next year.
As a human rights victim herself, Rosales said she was “jumping for joy” after hearing of the guilty ruling which she considered as sweet victory for the years of struggle and hard work in the search for justice against the Marcoses for their abuses during the martial law years.
