Senator Imee Marcos called on the government to strictly monitor the steep rise of chicken and prices in the market.
The Ilocos Norte politiko said the sudden price increase this close to Christmas will negatively affect consumers.
The cost of small eggs has reached more than P6 apiece.
A tray of 30 pieces is now at P180 or more.
The suggested retail price is P150.
“This may be an introductory shock for now, considering it’s not yet December,” Marcos warned.
“There’s no reason for the rise in egg prices because the Philippine Eg Board itself was shocked to find out an increase way above the suggested retail price of P5 each, despite steady supply and farmgate prices,” she added.
