Senator Imee Marcos called on the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Trade and Industry to first boost the sale of local agricultural products before resorting to their “knee-jerk” response of importing supplies.

The Ilocano politiko made this statement in a Facebook post on Tuesday, January 26, amid rising food costs.

“By way of warning, let us exhaust all domestic supplies before embarking as usual on the knee-jerk DA response of importation,” Marcos said.

“We can transform this vicious cycle into a virtuous one to benefit both our own farmers and our hapless consumers,” she added.
